9/09 & 9/16 Thursdays (6:00pm - 8:30pm) Hand Embroidery 101
September 9 & 16, 6:00pm - 8:30pm (Thursdays)
No prior embroidery experience required.
Embroidery has come a long way since your grandma’s samplers. Explore the beauty and versatility of hand needlework in this two-session course. You will learn traditional stitches and new ideas for applying these techniques to modern designs. Suitable for those new to hand embroidery and those who want to brush up on their skills, you will embellish a cut of fabric of your choosing (or a tote or apron, though they are not recommended for the absolute beginner) using a variety of different stitches.
Two 2 ½ - hour sessions.
Tools and materials needed (Available at Stitches):
Cotton DMC 6 stranded floss (3 colors minimum- no metallic/sparky floss)
Package of embroidery needles
8 - 12 inch embroidery hoop
Small pair of scissors
Water soluble fabric pen or chalk pencil for darker fabrics
Half-yard of woven cotton solid color fabric (or canvas tote bag or apron)
Half-yard cut or package of stabilizer (to use with lighter weight fabrics)
Optional: needle threading tool, storage box and bobbins for floss and supplies
